CARDWELL, MO (KAIT) - A police officer in southeast Missouri is charged with second degree domestic assault after choking his wife in December of 2013, according to Dunklin County Prosecutor Stephen Sokoloff.
According to court documents, Lyell choked his wife on December 29, 2013.
Lyell was charged on December 30, 2013 and given a $20,000 bond. He was also ordered not to have contact with the victim.
Sokoloff said Lyell is still serving as a police officer in Cardwell.
Lyell plead not guilty in April to the charges.
A jury trial is scheduled for later this month, according to Missouri's CaseNet website.
