The Osceola City Council has voted to apply for a federal grant for a proposed airport.

The voted was made Monday to apply for the a Federal Aviation Administration engineer planning grant for the proposed airport, Mayor Dickie Kennemore stated in a report by Talk Business.

Kennemore said the new airport will have a 5,000 to 6,000-foot runway. The mayor announced plans for the project in July. It is still in the preliminary stages.

The current Osceola airport has a 3,800-foot runway on Arkansas Highway 140.
