JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – Arkansas State junior pitcher Austin Aspegren was named as the ninth-ranked prospect from the MINK League as part of Baseball America's top prospects from summers leagues and Team USA the website announced Tuesday morning.
Aspegren is entering his first season with the Red Wolves after transferring from Garden City Community College where he made 27 appearances with a 2-0 record and registered four saves. He had a 3.12 ERA in 26 innings of work and also struck out 26 all out of the bullpen.
In the MINK League, he had a 1-0 record and did not allow an earned run to score in 23.1 innings of work while pitching for the St. Joseph Mustangs. He fanned 23 on the season, while issuing 11 walks and teamed with his current A-State teammate Eric Wilcoxson to lead the Mustangs to the MINK league championship for the third consecutive year. In the championship series, Aspegren had a 1-1 record with four strikeouts in three innings of work.
Baseball America ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, the top 23 prospects for Team USA, and the top 10 prospects in 18 other summer college leagues, plus a top five in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League.
