JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team heads into the final weekend of non-conference play with a pair of home matches against Southeast Missouri State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday and Sunday afternoons.
Friday's clash against SEMO starts at 5 p.m. and Sunday's match versus UAPB will kickoff at 3 p.m. Admission is free to all games at the A-State Soccer Complex.
The Red Wolves are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they outscored their opponents by a combined 5-2, defeating Mississippi Valley State 5-1 and then lost to Southern Miss in double-overtime 1-0.
The team's five goals last weekend came from five different players, with true freshmen Tayler Carter and Alexis Philippe scoring the first goals of their collegiate careers in the match. Samhia Simao and Loren Mitchell are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece, while Simao has three assists to lead the team.
A-State's goalkeeping has ranked among the best in the Sun Belt Conference this season. The team leads the league in total saves with 51 on the year, while freshman goalkeeper Sara Wicks ranks 43rd in the nation with 6.0 saves per game.
The Red Wolves were also recently honored for their outstanding success in the classroom when the Sun Belt Conference announced the 2014-15 Academic Team Awards Thursday morning. A-State captured the soccer award for the second time in the last three seasons and has also had a team GPA of 3.0 or better in each of the last three seasons.
