Transfer Daijon Macklien Joins A-State Men's Basketball Team
JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) –The Arkansas State University men's basketball team bolstered its backcourt for the 2014-15 season as the Red Wolves have added transfer Daijon Macklien (pronounced Day-john Mac-clean) in an announcement made this Monday (Sept. 22) by A-State head coach John Brady.
A 6-1, 195-pound guard, Macklien arrives to A-State from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Ala., and is immediately eligible for competition this upcoming season. The backcourt standout has three years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
“We're extremely excited to have Daijon joining our program,” said Brady, who begins his seventh season at A-State this 2014-15 campaign. “He's a late addition to our team and will provide immediate ballhandling, playmaking, scoring, and defense ability to our team. Having Daijon is a big boost for our team because I believe he can be an excellent player for us.
“In Daijon coming here, we appealed to the NCAA for a waiver which was granted due to extenuating circumstances within his family and they're (NCAA) allowing him to be eligible right away,” added Brady.
Macklien earned All-Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) South Division Second-Team recognition this past 2013-14 season at Chattahoochee Valley Community College under head coach Richard Mahone. Macklien, a starter in 30 of the team's 32 contests, registered per game averages of 12.2 points (392 pts.), 3.2 rebounds (102 rebs.), a conference second-best 5.5 assists (177 asts.), and 1.0 steals (32 stls.) for the Pirates, who posted a 19-13 overall record and a third-place tying 9-5 mark in the ACCC's South Division. He compiled 21 double-figure scoring game performances, which included a season-best 20 points apiece versus West Georgia Technical College (Feb. 18) and Faulkner State Community College (Feb. 20). Macklien tallied at least 15 points in a game on 15 occasions a season ago.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Macklien played football in the 2012 season at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Ala. He appeared in 10 games for the Lions and had one reception for 13 yards.
Macklien, who was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2012 Alabama-Georgia All-Star Game, attained conference MVP and all-conference accolades as a senior at Auburn (Ala.) High School. A team captain, Macklien was selected the 2011-12 team's MVP and concluded his prep career ranking among the school's all-time top five single-season scoring leaders.
