JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team is ranked second in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Poll as announced by the NTCA Wednesday morning.
The Red Wolves received 613 points with four first-place votes to finish behind last season's NCAA Tournament runner-up Nebraska, who topped the poll with 664 points and 11 first-place votes. Defending NCAA champion Sam Houston State is ranked third with a total of 572 points and seven first-place votes, while Vanderbilt (542 points) and Maryland Eastern Shore (524 points) round out the top five.
A-State finished last season ranked third after finishing in a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Tournament, its seventh straight appearance. The Red Wolves finished last season with a record of 98-32, with the 98 wins setting the school record for most in a season. The No. 2 preseason ranking is tied for the highest the Red Wolves have ever received with the only other time coming before the 2012-13 season.
Reigning NTCA Coach of the Year Justin Kostick returns for his sixth season and has accumulated a record of 417-167 (.714) during his tenure as A-State's head coach. The Red Wolves welcome back five lettermen from last season's squad, including the 2013-14 NTCA Division I Player of the Year Sarah Lokker, and have five freshmen set to compete for the upcoming season.
