JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – As cooler temperatures begin to move in and the days of summer come to a close, the Arkansas State baseball team is preparing to take the field for its fall practice schedule. Fresh off a semifinals appearance in the Sun Belt Conference tournament the Red Wolves begin fall practice Saturday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. and will hold an instrasquad scrimmage open to the public.
Arkansas State will scrimmage again Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m. and nine more times throughout the month of October leading up to the Red Wolf Series at the end of the month.
MLB scout day is set for Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. and all area scouts are invited to Tomlinson Stadium to watch the A-State players go through drills and a scrimmage.
The Red Wolf Series is set begin Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. with games two and three set for Nov. 1-2 at 1:30 p.m. each day. Games four and five are scheduled for Oct. 7-8 and will coincide with the program's “Parent's Weekend” as parents of A-State baseball players are invited to get an in-depth look at the program.
A-State had a fantastic season last season, compiling a 32-27 record and finishing second in the Sun Belt Conference with an 18-12 record. The team advanced through the SBC Tournament where it was one of the final four team remaining.
The Red Wolves return 25 players from last season's team and welcome 12 newcomers including nine freshman and three transfers.
Over the last five years, the Red Wolves have compiled a 159-140-1 record, which is the third most wins over any five year period in program history.
