A-State's Parcells Nabs SBC Cross Country Female Runner of the Week
NEW ORLEANS, La. (10/8/14) – The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) has selected Rexi Parcells, a senior on the Arkansas State University women's cross country team, as this week's (Oct. 8) Cross Country Female Runner of the Week in an announcement made this Wednesday (Oct. 8) by the conference.
For Parcells, the weekly league recognition represents the second time this fall (Sept. 3) in which she has received the honor.
Parcells picked up conference recognition this week after running both an A-State and personal career-best 5k 17:06.40 time to place 22nd individually out of 375 individuals while leading the regionally-ranked Red Wolves to a sixth-place 170-point finish at last Saturday's (Oct. 4) 26th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival meet in Fayetteville, Ark. Parcells, who eclipsed her previous best 17:53 set at the ninth annual Big River Forest Park Festival meet earlier this season (Sept. 12), surpassed former A-State runner Kristina Aubert's team course record time of 17:18.39 set in 2010.
The Red Wolves, who are eighth in the latest (Oct. 6) NCAA Division I South Central Region Rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) return to action next Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Indiana State Pre National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., and at the UALR Invitational in Little Rock, Ark.
