11 taken to hospital, 1 arrested after school bus accident

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

Eleven people were taken to the hospital and one arrest was made following an accident Thursday involving a school bus and a pickup truck.

E911 Director Jeff Presley told Region 8 News, eight children were taken to the hospital for “minor head and neck injuries.”

Three adults were also hospitalized. Their conditions are unclear.

According to Presley, Westside School District Bus #8566 was dropping off children in the 8200-block of County Road 333 near the Craighead/Greene County line.

Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff's Office said the school bus was heading south and was moving when it was rear-ended by 22-year-old Kyle Mitchell of Bono.

Presley said Mitchell was injured in the accident.

Kyle Mitchell was arrested and charged with DUI and refusal to submit a blood test.
