Paul Holmes named JPD public information specialist

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Chief Rick Elliott announced Monday that Paul Holmes has joined the Jonesboro Police Department as public information specialist.

Holmes, who reported on police and courts for a number of years at The Jonesboro Sun and KAIT, also served as an associate editor at The Sun and edited a business publication for five years.

The assignment is a departure for the department. Traditionally, a police officer served as JPD's public information officer. In addition to responding to media requests, the PIO worked with community groups and performed other outreach duties.

Recently the Jonesboro City County approved Elliott's request to have the position filled by a civilian, allowing officers to devote all their time to police work.

In addition to interacting with the media, Holmes will also "seek to improve the police department's outreach efforts to citizens through social media and the department's website," Elliott said.

A graduate of Arkansas State University, Holmes is married to Tommie Holmes, a juvenile probation officer for Craighead County. They have a son, Lane Holmes, who is a patrol officer with the JPD.
