BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Baxter County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a telephone scam where the caller claims to be with the North Arkansas Electric Cooperative.
Sheriff John Montgomery states the caller tells an NAEC customer their account is past due and will be disconnected unless the customer pays by credit card over the phone. NAEC told the sheriff's office they do not make calls like this to customers.
The call comes from a number in Dallas, Texas and has an area code of “915.”
Those receiving a call like this should not give out any credit card or personal information.
