JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Employees at a local factory are working to help feed the hungry in Region 8.
Shipping and Receiving Coordinator at Unilever, Brent Powell, was the one who first approached his boss about the idea.
"The idea was with the extra land that we had that a possible garden to donate fresh food to the local food banks or shelters."
It's one year later, and they've done exactly that.
Adam Reed, Warehouse Supervisor at Unilever said, "You know, you think of hunger being in third world countries or something like that. But you know we have kids everyday going hungry in Region 8. So, you know we thought fresh produce would be a way to go. Way to get nutritious meals into their stomachs."
Employees have recently donated 1,000 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas and say they're not done.
Next year, they hope to donate 2,000 pounds.
