Jonesboro woman dies 3 days after head-on crash

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman hurt in a head-on collision last week has died of her injuries.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, on East Matthews near the Marion Berry Parkway intersection, according to incident reports from the Jonesboro Police Department and Arkansas State Police.

Barbara Barnett, 77, was traveling westbound with her husband, 81-year-old Verlan Barnett, when a 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by 39-year-old Samjhara Adhikari crossed the centerline and struck the Barnett's Chevy Geo Tracker head-on.

Officer Ross Rogan stated in his report that “Mrs. Barnett was coherent, talking plainly, and did not appear to have life threatening injuries.” She and the others were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Three days later, on Saturday, Oct. 18, Barbara Barnett died of her injuries at St. Bernards Medical Center.
