Coldest Temperatures So Far This Season Forecast Tonight

DECEMBER 14, 2004 - Posted at 3:48 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - An Artic airmass will settle over the Mid-South tonight, according to a report from the National Weather Service's Memphis bureau.

Temperatures will drop into the teens in most locations.

Young children, the elderly and homeless are vulnerable to extreme cold conditions, and should spend the night in a warm dry building.  Pets are also vulnerable to the extreme cold.  Keep pets indoors as much as possible.  Make sure outdoor pets have a warm dry shelter, sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water.

Precautions should also be made to insulate any exposed piping, especially in older homes.  Be particularly careful with portable heaters, as there is the danger of fire or toxic fumes.

(The Associated Press and the National Weather Service contributed to this report.)
