State Falling Behind on Child Abuse Checks

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state Children and Family Services Division says employee turnover is behind delays in child abuse investigations.  The delays sometimes result in information being late in getting to police.

Agency assistant director Pat Page addressed legislators yesterday.

She said state workers failed to meet a 30-day goal for completing child abuse investigations 45 percent of the time between July and September.  Page blamed the problem on high caseloads and excessive staff vacancies.
