JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's soccer concluded the 2014 season with a 3-0 loss to Troy on Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Park.
The match was scoreless at halftime, but the Trojans scored three times in the second half in the half to hand the Red Wolves the defeat. A-State finished the season with a 4-14 overall record and a 1-8 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, while Troy had a regular season record of 14-5 and a 6-3 record in the league.
Troy's Allisa Jones scored the first two goals of the game in the 55th and 61st minutes, while Chelsey Williams made it a three score match in the 68th minute. The games' first goal came after Nicole Harris stole the ball and passed it ahead to Jones on a breakaway down the middle of the field. Jones scored again just a few minutes after taking a pass from Williams in the box and then took a shot that deflected off A-State goalkeeper Sara Wicks to give the Trojans a two goal cushion.
The third goal came off a corner kick from Louise Cheng into Jasmine Fahrbauer who sent it on to Williams who shot in front of a crowded net. Wicks tried to reposition herself on Williams shot but the crowded proved to be too much of an obstacle and the Trojans went up 3-0 with 22 minutes to play in the game.
Mykel Ward had a scoring opportunity in the 75th minute on a shot from 18 yards but, it sailed just over the net and the Red Wolves did not take another shot attempt in the game. Ward led A-State with two shots, while Jena' Kelley, Loren Mitchell and Jordan Adams each had a shot on goal.
Troy held a 14-9 edge in total shots and a 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Trojans also took eight corner kicks to the Red Wolves four.
Sara Wicks made five saves in goal for Arkansas State, while Mikki Lewis had three saves on the afternoon.
