Game & Fish Commission Investigating Complaints About Hunting Dogs

DECEMBER 17, 2004 - Posted at 7:52 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Complaints about the use of dogs to help track prey have prompted the state Game & Fish Commission to consider whether the practice should remain legal in the state.

Commissioners said Thursday they would take another look at "dog running" after two property owners complained to them about vandalism, near-misses with bullets and retaliation from wayward hunters.

Commisioners say they may ban the practice if complaints continue.

Hunter Carlton Self of Clarendon said one problem is that dogs can't read signs that post private property.

The residents called for restricting use of dogs to areas far from developed parts of the state.
