JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - USDA farmers, consultants, and representatives gathered Tuesday morning to discuss the management of soil in Arkansas.
The Southern Agricultural Cover Crops Training Conference held at the ASU Convocation Center gave farmers a chance to learn more about soil health, how to manage cover crops, and conservation.
John Lee with the Arkansas Conservation Service said the conference also gives USDA representatives a chance to see what conditions Arkansas farmers experience.
"I feel that it's very important that the farmer today protects the land for the farmer tomorrow, and that's what our charge is today is to help that farmer protect the land today so there will be land for farmers to farm in the next generation," Lee said.
The event also informed land owners on how to manage irrigation water, since that is the primary use of water in the state.
