Winter Storm Watch Issued for Region 8

JONESBORO, AR - The National Weather Service's Memphis bureau has issued a winter storm watch for much of Region 8, which will go into effect Tuesday.

According to the NWS, "significant snow accumalations are possible across the watch area," which includes northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel.  "Rain, sleet and eventually snow will spread into the remainder of the Mid-South Wednesday, mainly after noon." 

According to K8 Chief Meteorologist Chad Watson, "I expect the snow to occur around midnight Tuesday and last through mid-morning on Thursday.  Based on model trends, a line of four to eight inches plus will be possible from Cleburne County northeast to New Madrid County, Missouri.  This includes the Jonesboro metro area and Craighead County.  Areas of snow accumalation near 12 inches plus could occur over areas of Greene, Clay, Dunklin and Pemiscot counties through the day on Wednesday."

Meanwhile, Watson says he expects another artic blast to strike Region 8 on Thursday.  "Average lows will be in single digits across the region," said Watson.
