Motor Vehicle Commission Rejects Cap on Document Fees

DECEMBER 20, 2004 - Posted at 4:52 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission voted Monday not to cap fees automobile dealers charge customers to handle document processing.

John Chappelle, commission executive director, said the commission voted 6-to-2 against capping the fees.

Chappelle said most automobile dealers charge no more than $300 to handle documents in an individual car sale.  Legislators rejected an earlier proposal by the commission to cap document handling fees at $149.
