David Puryear Center hosts their annual chili cookout

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Saturday was the David Puryear Center's 25th Anniversary. They celebrated with their annual chili cookout.

The center opened in October of 1989, and is a non-profit organization that houses ten special needs adults.

The chili cook-off is their only fundraiser of the year. They're hoping to raise money for a new generator for their building.

Administrator Linnette Pryor said there were 14 different chili recipes in the contest. She said the event doubled in size since last year.

"We know already that our auction amount has probably tripled already and it doesn't close until 2 o'clock,” Pryor said early in the afternoon.

More than 150 items were donated to the silent auction for this event. Region 8's Amanda Hansen and Justin Logan were this year's cookout judges.
