Garner Leading Red Wolves at A-State Fall Beach Classic
GULF SHORES, Ala. (astateredwolves.com) – Arkansas State junior Seth Garner completed the A-State Fall Beach Classic's first two rounds tied for second place Monday, leading the Red Wolves' men's golf team to a tie for third place through the two-day tournament's first 36 holes of competition at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
Garner recorded a combined 144, which included a season-best 71 for the opening 18 holes, and stands just two strokes behind leader Baxter Ward of Stephen F. Austin. He was one of six A-State players to complete the first day among the top 25 individual leaders.
The Red Wolves began the tournament by posting a first-round 303 and followed with a 304, giving it a two-round 607 total that leaves it tied with New Orleans and 12 strokes behind second-place UALR. Stephen F. Austin leads the eight-team field with a combined 592.
Joining Garner in the top 25 for A-State was Oswin Schlenkrich (T8th), Alex Hewitt (T14th), Tanner Napier (T17th), Petter Salqvist (T24th) and Albert Arribas (T24th). Schlenkrich shot a 149 and was followed by?Hewitt with a 152, Napier with a 153 and Salqvist and Arribas with a 155.
Also competing for Arkansas State, Trent Jones and Christian Helmbold both stand tied for 29th with a 156 and Matthew Loiacano tied for 33rd with a 158. Schlenkrich, Hewitt, Arribas and Helmbold are participating as individuals.
The A-State Fall Beach Classic, being hosted by the Red Wolves for the third straight year, will conclude Tuesday with the third and final round.
