A-State Women's Basketball Receiving Votes in Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll
JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) – The Arkansas State women's basketball team received votes in the preseason USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll released Monday afternoon. Led by junior All-American candidate and Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year Aundrea Gamble, the Red Wolves take to the floor for the first of two exhibition games on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7:05 p.m. against Truman State followed by a matchup with Harding on Nov. 10. The regular season opens Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:05 p.m. against Jackson State in the opening round of the 2014 Preseason WNIT at the Convocation Center.
Arkansas State was voted at the preseason Sun Belt favorites by the leagues coaches' earlier month, with Gamble and Hanna Qedan earning Preseason Sun Belt Conference accolades. A-State returns three starters, including Qedan and Gamble who each averaged double-digit point totals a year ago. Gamble was the SBC Player of the Year after averaging 18.9 points per game and finished ranked in the top-10 in nine statistical categories in the Sun Belt.
Arkansas State was last ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll during the 1999-2000 season. The Red Wolves were ranked 24th in the AP Poll on Jan. 3, 2000 after defeating No. 20 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse. It was the first time in the program's history that it had achieved at top-25 ranking.
A-State finished the 2013-14 season with a 22-12 record and the school's ninth appearance in the WNIT.
