PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - If your books are overdue, one Region 8 library is asking for food instead of money.
The Greene County Public Library in Paragould is collecting food for Mission Outreach. For the month of November, one can or box of food is equal to $2 in fines.
Assistant Director Diana Brummett said they want to give back.
"It's November, Thanksgiving, and food banks are kind of low this time of the year," Brummett said. "It's a way for us to collect instead of the fines we take the food and we can pass it on. Pay it forward to people in the community."
Library patrons like Jessica Clark believe "food for fines" is fantastic.
"I think it's a great idea," she said. "It's a great way to help people save money, but can give back to a great cause and if I have any fines, I'll definitely participate, myself."
Last year the library collected 600 pounds of food. This year, the library wants to collect 1,200 pounds of food.
You have until the end of November to participate.
