Greene County Tech hosts Veterans Day program

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - In honor of Region 8 veterans, Greene County Tech High School hosted their 43rd annual Veterans Day celebration Thursday morning.

The event began with a performance by the band followed by the national anthem.

This year the school added a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action ceremony to the program.

“I tell the kids this is something bigger than all of us," said Lori Dial, GCT theatre director. "It's all about honoring those who've served and that gives us the right to get an education and to vote and to do these things we enjoy. The day is about them and not us.”

Colonel James Treece was a guest speaker at the event. Treece is the 87th Troupe Commander in the Army National Guard.

A JROTC student was awarded a scholarship and three veterans were inducted into the Greene County Veterans Hall of Fame.

Dial said the school began inducting veterans in 1989 and the induction has become a big honor in the area.
