Recently, last Friday night the Paragould versus Blytheville game ended with 4:36 left to go in the game after a bench clearing fight between the two teams.
Sometimes, grownups don't set a good example either. Sunday, NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski along with crew members brawled following the AAA Texas 500. Two crew chiefs were fined and received probation from NASCAR.
What happened to sportsmanship and leaving it all out on the field?
These two fights bring a teachable moment for all of us. If you play organized sports for fun or professionally, YOU are looked up to by someone. You're held to a higher standard.
As we get set for Football Friday Night and soccer and basketball games this weekend, I encourage you to sit down with your kids and explain the definition of good sportsmanship. And parents, I've had all three of my kids in sports, and I know how emotionally involved we can get when one of our children is on a team.
But remember, YOU are the ultimate role model for your kids. Showing sportsmanship teaches them by example and it will make this A Better Region 8.
