Law enforcement to respond quicker to bomb threats

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A federal grant equipped law enforcement in Region 8 with a truck that will help them respond quicker to bomb threats.

A bomb squad response truck will be stationed in Jonesboro. It's one of two trucks that were acquired through the Department of Homeland Security.

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said it's going to be a big asset not only to law enforcement, but the community.

"For Jonesboro and Northeast Arkansas, it's incredible because we've had to call and wait 'til Little Rock responded," Mayor Perrin said. "So, you can imagine two hours up here or you know as fast as they can get here. Now, it's here."

Arkansas State Police Director Colonel Stan Witt said they responded to 55 bomb calls and the majority of those were located in Eastern Arkansas in 2013.
