JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - This year's deer season brought in big numbers around Region 8 before the popular modern gun season even starts.
Gene Hux with Academy Sports and Outdoors said his store saw a major increase in the past week from the upcoming season that begins Saturday morning.
"We've seen a great increase in obviously hunting supplies, from camo to guns, ammo, scent killers, calls, the whole nine yards," Hux said. "We've seen a great increase all across the board."
While Gene said some of the increase comes from the holiday season with early shoppers, he believes that the majority of the shopping comes from hunters that are ready to take to the woods for the start of the new season.
"A lot of people hunt archery and muzzleloader, but I don't think any of those are going to see numbers like what we're going to see in the morning with modern gun," Hux said.
Matt Chadwick works at the store and said although hunters have already been in the woods this year, they do expect more competition Saturday morning.
"I definitely would say there will be a pretty big increase with it being modern gun," Chadwick said. "That's the season around here for deer season."
With more people in the woods, it also increases the chances for a mistake to occur.
