WYNNE, AR (KAIT) - A Cross County woman was killed in a five-vehicle accident on Highway 64 Thursday morning, according to the Cross County Sheriff's Department.
Deputy Josh Orman told Region 8 News that Shameka Patterson, 37, of Wynne was killed after she lost control of her car on an icy bridge and struck a truck head on.
According to Orman, the accident happened at about 5:30 Thursday morning on Hwy. 64, 4 miles east of Wynne at the Bay Bridge.
As Patterson crossed the bridge, traveling east, she struck the bridge and lost control of her car, Orman said. Her car then struck a pickup truck before hitting a concrete barrier and bursting into flames.
A tractor-trailer then tried to avoid the two vehicles but collided with the truck.
After that collision, the rig jackknifed on the bridge.
When the rig went into eastbound traffic, it struck a fourth and fifth vehicle.
Mike Hamrick of Wynne, Barbara Jones of Wynne, Claude Roberts of Earle and Bobby Ray Williams of Earle were all injured in the accident. Everyone but the driver of the 18-wheeler, David Tidd of San Diego, California, was taken to a local hospital.
Arkansas State Police and the Cross County Sheriff's Office are investigating the cause of the crash.
Orman said the Cross County Sheriff's Office, Southern Paramedics, Wynne Fire Department, Parkin Fire Department and Arkansas State Police responded to the scene.
