A group of good Samaritans rushed to help a pregnant woman after Jonesboro police say she was sexually assaulted in a store.

Shane Anthony Owens, 23, of Powhatan is charged with second degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct.

He's accused of groping a 21-year-old woman inside Walmart, 1911 W. Parker Road, Friday morning.

The victim, who is 16 weeks pregnant, told police she was shopping for Christmas decorations when she noticed Owens staring at her. The woman stated she moved to the candle aisle to get away and Owens followed her.

While her back was turned, the woman told officers Owens grabbed her from behind and groped her.

The victim screamed and punched Owens and he ran off.

Several customers and store employees heard the woman scream for help and chased after Owens, tackling him in the parking lot.

When officers arrived at the store, they found Owens on the ground, surrounded by a group of people.

Owens reportedly told police he had dropped his money and a woman had stolen it.

According to the report, Owens said “I did grab her, like by the waist, but I was just looking for my money.”

Upon learning he was facing a sexual assault charge, officers stated Owens began to curse and scream. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. An officer took Owens to the Craighead County Detention Center while another officer stayed at the store to interview witnesses and the victim.

Another woman told police Owens had been staring at her and following her around the store. She stated she became so uncomfortable "she made sure there were other people on every aisle that she went down." A short time later she reportedly heard a woman scream and "was not shocked" when she saw Owens running out of the store.

Due to her pregnancy, the assault victim was taken to the hospital to be “checked out.” Neither she nor her baby was hurt, the report stated.
