Sheriff's office investigates possible "scams"

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Craighead County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible “jury duty” scam, according to an incident report filed Friday.

According to the incident report, Investigator Rusty Grigsby said people have been getting a recorded message that says, “You have reached the warrants division of the Craighead County Sheriff's Department. Please leave your name and number and we will get back with you.”

Sheriff Marty Boyd told his department that many people are getting similar phone messages from a random number.

Boyd reported that one scam says people missed jury duty and they must pay a fine.

The sheriff's office believes these are scams and urges people to not give out their personal information over the phone.
