Joe Mack Campbell, dead at 83

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

If you have ever played sports in Jonesboro, you may know of Joe Mack Campbell Park on Dan Avenue, but you may not know the man behind the park's namesake.

Joe Mack Campbell, 83, of Bono died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family.

An obituary from Emerson Funeral Home stated Campbell lived his entire life in the Jonesboro area and was a loving, caring family man.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting and raising livestock. He was inducted into the Valley View Hall of Fame and served as a board member of the NEA District Fair and Rodeo Association.

Campbell was also honored by Southwestern Bell for burying 25 miles of cable in 18 days for the world's fastest time following an ice storm in 1968.

Visitation for Campbell will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
