JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – Arkansas State head women's basketball coach Brian Boyer announced Thursday that West Memphis High School standout Alexis Hamlet has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball the Red Wolves starting with 2015-16 season.
Hamlet, a 5'10 guard, helped West Memphis reach the semifinals of the Arkansas Activities Association 2014 Class 7A state tournament. The Lady Devils finished the year with a 21-8 overall record and a 12-2 mark in the 7A/6A-East conference. She was named as a Class 7A All-State selection and was named to the 7A All-Tournament team.
"I've always said, that finding guards that can score from all three areas are hard to come by and Alexis is one of those guards," Boyer said. "She has the ability to attack the rim, she has a very good pull-up jump shot and you have to guard her from three. Alexis is very talented and only going to continue to get better."
Hamlet averaged 19 points per game a year ago, and upped the average to 22.4 points per night during conference play. In addition she added six rebounds, three steals and three assists on her way to named the 7A/6A KAIT8 Fastbreak Super Team Player of the Year. She also received All-County honors from the Evening Times in West Memphis and is a two-time 7A/6A-East All-Conference pick.
