Students visit the Congo in their library

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Students at Nettleton Junior High School got to visit the Congo here in Region 8 on Monday.

The Congo Day project was inspired by the book "Endangered" by Eliot Schrefer. Students visited the library to experience the food and culture firsthand.

"I think it's a really cool idea for our school to embrace the Congo culture about the book we've been learning," said Haley Durham, a seventh grade student at NJH.

Another seventh grade student, Erin George, said it was a great way to learn.

"Not a lot of places get to experience the things that are in the Congo and I think this is a great way to learn."

English teacher Ashley Ziegler said immersing students in their subject is a fun and effective method of teaching.

"The kids get to experience things that they might not get to just reading the book," Ziegler said. "When they come in here this will be something that they remember forever."

Around 250 students participated in Congo Day.
