STEELE, MO (KAIT) -

A Southeast Missouri man spent part of the holiday weekend behind bars after he got into a fight with officers, according to Steele police.

Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield said Demario Hendrix, 26, of Neelyville was pulled over Saturday night.

Once pulled over, Hendrix reportedly got out of his vehicle and pulled out a handgun. Officers then knocked the gun out of his hand.

Once Hendrix was cuffed, officers found a “substantial amount of purported methamphetamine”, a news released stated.

Hendrix is charged with unlawful use and exhibiting of a weapon, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance. He is currently being held in the Pemiscot County Jail with no bond.
