SWIFTON, AR (KAIT) -

A group of Region 8 teachers proved that the power of education can surpass borders.

Four elementary teachers with the Jackson County School District crossed the border and traveled to Acuña, Mexico as a part of the Every Child is Ours program.

Every Child is Ours is an organization in Region 8 that focuses on providing education and resources to children beyond their community.

In Acuña, the teachers worked with one of the schools and its teachers.

April Johnson teaches a fourth grade class in Jackson County and said it was a wonderful opportunity to help others.

“We took different teaching strategies and skills that we use and we taught that to the teachers there,” Johnson said. “Then I guess the best part about the whole experience was working with the kids, you know, themselves cause they were so eager to learn.”

Johnson said they are partnering with the school to send them school supplies and resources unavailable to them.
