Police Say They Have Confession from Jonesboro and Sharp County Shooting Suspect

JONESBORO, AR - Police in northeast Arkansas say a man in custody in Florida has confessed to shooting a lawyer at Jonesboro and a woman in Sharp County.  Jonesboro police sergeant Todd Nelson says 60-year-old Allen C. Evans is charged with attempted capital murder plus aggravated assault counts.

Evans, formerly of Hardy, was arrested in central Florida on Wednesday.  He was wanted for the shooting of 61-year-old William "Bill" Webster and the victim in Sharp County, Carol Howell.

Nelson said that Webster was able to indicate to authorities that he was shot by Evans.  Webster had been in critical condition.

Documents related to the case show that Evans told police he committed both shootings.

Evans is being held in Florida awating transport to Arkansas.
