Jonesboro's New Mayor Is Officially Sworn In

January 1, 2005--Posted at 6:00 p.m. CST

JONESBORO -- For nearly 17 years, Doug Formon has been serving the city of Jonesboro as a Jonesboro police officer, but now, he has a different set of duties.

"I went from being a police sergeant, to being the mayor of Jonesboro, so it's exciting,"said Formon.

As the mayor of a city growing at a tremendous rate, he, and other city officials, will make sure Jonesboro stays on the path of prosperity in the years to come.

"It's been a dream of mine for several years.  It's just a real honor here, to do it in front of my friends, especially  law enforcement. I worked with those guys for years and years. It was so exciting, it really was,"said Formon.

Doug Formon welcomes this new year with new challenges, but he looks forward to the challenges ahead.

"Now, we get to get started on Monday, and do things the way I want to do them, and the way the department heads want to do them. We're just really excited, said Formon.

He will continue to serve this city, and it's people, but instead of Sergeant Formon, he can now be called mayor.
