JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Prosecutors have decided not to file charges against a Jonesboro man who was accused in a plot to kill one of his former employees.

Craighead County Deputy Prosecutor Tracye Walker said Larry Barnett, 68, of Jonesboro will not be charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Walker said there wasn't enough evidence other than victim testimony to file charges. She also said the case was “circumstantial”.

Barnett, who owns Legend Motor Company, is also under investigation by Jonesboro police and the U.S. Secret Service for “falsifying bills of sale and turning them into a local bank and receiving money for those bills of sale”, Det. Jason Simpkins said.

During the forgery investigation, court records stated police got a phone call from a former employee saying he'd overheard Barnett plotting his death.

Barnett has always maintained his innocence in the conspiracy case, Walker said.
