LUXORA, AR (KAIT) - A local food pantry that lost thousands of dollars in food donations from a suspected theft is now closed after the building was damaged by a fire.

Luxora Police Chief Albert Wright told Region 8 News that God's Angel Ministry is closed. A fire caused extensive damage to the pantry on Thursday. Crews were called to the fire around 10 a.m.

Wright said the fire may have started around a wood stove and the investigation is ongoing.

Donnice Haymon with the food pantry said Friday most of the food in the pantry had to be thrown out, including can goods damaged by the fire. They are currently trying to savage some foods that were stored in a freezer.

Haymon also said the pantry is working with the city to set up a temporary place for the pantry to give out food.

The same pantry was involved in the theft of meat valued at $3,000 in November. No arrests have been reported in that case.

Anyone wanting to make donations to the pantry are asked to call 870-278-2745 for more information.
