Salvation Army bells could stop ringing

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Salvation Army needs your help because some bells aren't ringing.

Salvation Army Major Eugene Gesner said they're desperate for volunteers.

Gesner said the annual bell ringing is their largest fundraiser. The money collected goes to all of the Salvation Army programs for the entire year.

“We do a shelter and we do emergency services," said Gesner. "We can handle up to 20 people a night. We serve them breakfast and supper. We serve another 20 to 30 people a night we serve the evening meal to for a feeding program. We give out food baskets and clothing.”

They also work with the Red Cross aiding fire victims by helping people start over when they've lost everything. There are times when they even help people with utilities.

To volunteer, contact the Salvation Army at (870) 932-3785.
