Paragould PD warns residents of phone scam

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - The Paragould Police Department is warning residents of another phone scam making the rounds.

According to the department, the scam involves someone calling residents claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House.

The caller tells the potential victim they have won over one million dollars and a very expensive vehicle. Police state the caller will even name the CEO of the the company during the call.

A potential victim is asked by the caller to either open a new bank account so the money can be transferred, or to get a money order to pay off "fees or taxes" associated with the fake prize.

Police urge residents to never give out personal information to these callers. They advise Publishers Clearing House will not contact residents by phone to request this information.
