Santa Claus reads to children in Jonesboro Wednesday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A special visitor dropped by the Jonesboro Public Library on Wednesday morning.

Santa Claus along with his helpers and a couple of reindeer met with children, listened to Christmas wishes and read “The Night Before Christmas.”

Callie Harpole said she grew up at the library and is thrilled to now bring her 2-year-old son.

“The library is more like a big community center,” Harpole said. “There's so many activities and it's so much fun, and with events like this it's just really neat.

Assistant Youth Services Manager Morgan Sallee said the library is happy to host these events.

“We just like to do things that you normally wouldn't expect a library to do in order to get people into the library and realize that we're more than just books,” Sallee said. “We want to give kids an opportunity to sit on Santa's lap and to get their picture made for free.”

In addition to Santa's visit, the library hosted its annual holiday open house.

Mrs. Claus will have tea with children at 2 p.m. Sunday.
