Train engine catches fire in Craighead County

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A train engine caught on fire on Thursday night in Craighead County.

According to the Jonesboro Fire and Police Dispatch, it happened on County Road 104, west of the RidgePointe Country Club.

Valley View Division Fire Chief Jeremy White said the second engine of the train caught on fire. It was caused by a reversing mechanism malfunction. 

White said investigators don't yet know why it malfunctioned. "They're going to separate the train and try to investigate it [the cause] further," White said. 

Investigators haven't said what was on the train. It is owned by Union Pacific.
