Bill Would Mandate Parental Consent for Abortions in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A bill filed in advance of the legislative session would require a minor to have a parent or guardian's permission in order to have an abortion.  The same would apply for a mentally incompetent person.

A law now on the books requires that a parent or guardian be notified 48 hours in advance of the procedure if a minor is planning an abortion.  The bill by Republican Representative Jeremy Hutchinson of Little Rock would require written consent.  The bill includes exceptions for cases of incest or to save the mother's life.
