It was a dangerous weekend to be on Region 8 roads. Five people lost their lives in terrible crashes. There are some dangerous spots out there.
Several are on Highway 49 including the intersection into the Carriage Hills Subdivision in Greene County. Two people died there in a crash Saturday. I was sad and frankly disappointed to hear that a stop light is not in the works for this area.
Not everyone wants another stoplight to slow us down, but what I don't want is for Region 8 News to have to cover another tragedy because of this intersection. We can't put lights everywhere, but we need to do a better job looking at our dangerous intersections and find ways to make them safer.
So I want this editorial to speak directly to our community leaders - it's time to step up and do your part to keep our roadways safe and put a light at the intersection of highway 49 and the Carriage Hills Subdivision. It will create a safer intersection and make this A Better Region 8.
