Jonesboro students graduate DARE program

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Around 100 kids graduated Tuesday from the DARE program.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or DARE, is a nationwide drug prevention program. Students from the Health and Wellness Environmental Studies Magnet School in Jonesboro just finished the 10-week program.

Corporal Kevin Foust with the Jonesboro Police Department said it's vital we give our children the necessary information and support early on.

"Our kids are seeing things now at a 5th grade age that we didn't see at our age," Foust said. "So, we're just trying to give them some life skills, things that they can use and we do talk about drugs and alcohol and it is part of the peer pressure and part of the things they're gonna be faced with."

Around 100 fifth graders graduated from the program.
