JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin issued an official proclamation at Tuesday night's Jonesboro City Council meeting recognizing the Arkansas State football team for its recent accomplishments and its upcoming game in the GoDaddy?Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 4.
The team was represented at the meeting by its senior class, which includes 10 fifth-year players who have helped lead the Red Wolves to 35 victories over the last four seasons. A-State head coach Blake Anderson was also in attendance and not only thanked Mayor Perrin and the city of Jonesboro for their continued support, but also praised the athletic and academic efforts by the Red Wolves' seniors.
"This is a great honor and I couldn't be more proud, but all the credit goes to this group of seniors who have built a tremendous legacy here,"?said Anderson. "We've had great support all season from this outstanding community, and this is just another example of that."
The proclamation, read by Perrin at the meeting, lists numerous A-State football accolades accumulated the last four seasons and also urges all Red Wolves fans to attend the 2015 GoDaddy?Bowl. A-State will play Mid-American Conference member Toledo in the game, set for an 8 p.m. kickoff at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The Red Wolves are playing in the contest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year in the game's 16-year history.
A-State completed the regular season with a 7-5 overall record, marking its fourth consecutive year with a winning record for the first time since 1984-87 when it was an NCAA I-AA (now FCS?member). The Red Wolves also posted a winning Sun Belt Conference record (5-3) for the fourth straight year and seventh time since the football league was formed in 2001.
