AT&T copper theft leads to service outage

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Thieves are to blame for an AT&T service outage in Craighead County.

According to an incident report from the Craighead County Sheriff's Department, a deputy was called out to County Road 714, just east of state Highway 141, for a copper theft on Thursday.

Repairmen with AT&T told the deputy they discovered the theft after an outage report. In all, 20 ft. of 200 pair copper cable had been cut and stolen.

The repairmen said this is the third time they've had copper stolen on County Road 714.

According to the report, the cost of the cable would cost AT&T $200 to replace, not including labor.

Police haven't made an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.
