JPD wants you to travel safe over the holidays

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro Police Department wants you to enjoy the holidays in the safest way possible.

More people will be burning up the road to get to their Christmas destinations than ever before this year.

Sgt. George Martin with the Jonesboro Police Department is asking drivers to stop, slow down and think.

“Plan your trip ahead of time. Don't wait until the last minute,” said Sgt. Martin. “Look at the weather conditions. Make sure you're not traveling in any kind of storms or anything like that. Give some extra time for your trip. It's going to be a lot of traffic and there's going to be a lot of congestion in areas.”

Sgt. Martin said to also make sure you have a charged cell phone with you in case of emergency.

If you're traveling with children, tell them not to talk to strangers.
